New Leadership Delivering Results for Loudoun County

Hello! My name is Robin Roopnarine, and I am running to serve you, the people of Loudoun County, as your Treasurer.  In this role, my priority will be to assist all community members, with efficiency and integrity, and to carry out the duties of the Treasurer, by providing exemplary customer service, foster cooperation among other constitutional officers, and build relationships with all county departments.

As a 22-year Loudoun County resident running for Treasurer, I believe that my experience as an Eagle Scout, Marine, entrepreneur, accountant, attorney, and prosecutor has prepared me to act as a good steward of our county’s finances.

I immigrated with my family from Trinidad and Tobago

when I was 6 years old and grew up in New York and New Jersey, where I joined the Boy Scouts and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. Scouting built upon the values instilled in me by my parents -- trust, loyalty, thriftiness, preparedness, and service.

I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Rutgers University.

During this time, I enlisted in the United States Marines Corps Reserve as an infantry mortarman. Soon after starting my first job as a bank auditor, the Marine Corps deployed me to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, where I served in Operation Desert Storm processing prisoners of war.

I earned numerous awards as a Marine, including National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Liberation of Kuwait Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, Navy Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal and Combat Action Ribbon. I was honorably discharged in 1991.

Upon my return to bank auditing, Deloitte recruited me as a management consultant specializing in financial information technology systems.

I began my law studies at Seton Hall School of Law while also studying for and becoming a Certified Public Accountant before graduating from law school.

Deloitte subsequently rehired me as a tax professional to serve a diverse clientele in banking, internal and external audits, corporate tax advisory services, management, and technology consulting. I served dozens of multi-national corporations implementing new tax systems that significantly reduced filing timelines.

In 2001, Deloitte transferred me to Northern Virginia

to oversee its mid-Atlantic region. I purchased a home in Loudoun County shortly thereafter. Presently, I serve as a member of the Ashburn Village Homeowners Association Budget and Finance Committee.

I am vested in our county and humbly look to your support to serve you as a Loudoun County constitutional officer. I will maintain the financial stability of current Treasurer Zurn’s tenure while improving cooperation and efficiencies across Loudoun County government.
